FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

+How to you schedule your clients?
There is no hair shop or salon without worries. We want to let you know that you are not alone and that you are not the first to question about something you do not know much or that you want to better understand. We understand that. And in order to butter service you, We have come with some questions that have being frequently asked by our previous clients, questions that we have asked ourselves too.  After listing some of those questions, we brought some answers to those worries. the list is not limited to what you will read here. We will continue expanding it as the needs and worries.
+Do you do walk in at Passion Beauty?
We recommend that you call way ahead of the day you want to have your hair done. Our regular clients usually schedule their next appointment at their last visit. Moreover, all depends on previous scheduled  clients and cancellations.
+ Do you sometimes refuse to accept new clients?
This only happens when we can not find a time to feet a new client in.  Passion Beauty is so small to accommodate more clients at the same time and by state law. Another reason being that we do not want to be overwhelmed  and have  clients wait for far too long before they get their service.
+ What are your prices?
All depends on the type of service and we recommend that you visit our price list on the menu page.

Recommended Weave extensions

+What types of brands do you recommend for weave extension?
We recommend the best quality hair extensions that you can afford.

Yaki-textured hair is available and  can be ironed flat and curled  and curl back. This hair is just like African-American  naturally relaxed hair. It does not tangle and it’s reusable. You may purchase this hair at www. Extensions-Plus.com.

Zigzag Hair from Extensions- Plus – This is EP’s regular Indian hair line. The texture of this hair is smooth and somewhat silky – but not like doll hair or anything. The ends of some batches may be too thin some-times.

Indian Remy Hair – This hair matches mostly all hair textures. The cuticles are aligned and it does not tangle. However, with all hair, there may be a risk of getting a bad batch. It is soft and fluffy. There are also online vendors that carry this hair.

This list of  brands are for your information and you do not have to purchase them if your budget does not permit; in order to have  your weave  done . We know and understand that they are a little  bit pricy for my budget at certain time. But there can be other affordable ones too. You may buy what we call regular hair extensions. If you choose to use the regular one, you might be taking some risks of having  a lot of tangling . However, we  do have many clients that absolutely love using the regular hair and we have never had a problem with it.

+How many packs of hair do I need for a full weave?
It is always recommended to buy two packs to be on the safe side. Most of the time, We use one pack or a pack and a half. All depend on the hair style. We have used three packs in the past but that was wet and wavy for a style with micro braids.

There is a new version of human hair that is sold in ounces. In that case, you recommend that you buy 3 ounces packs time 2 or 3. That is what we have tried.

Perm or Relaxers and Color

+What hair colors do you recommend?
All depends on your social status and profession or what you want your style for. If you are a show girl that does not mingle with people or services that have rules against the colors, any color of your preference will do. Otherwise , we will recommend that you buy the darker colors (#1, #1b, #2, and #4). Now that the depth of the color can vary from one brand to the other, especially the #2 and #4. Sometimes these two colors tend to be brown or as we call it dirty brown.

Know that the better the higher the quality of your hair extension the better the weave may last. Here are a few basic brands that you can buy according to your budged and risks because sometime you can buy one that will be good and next time you buy the same hair and brand and it sheds or tangles a lot. so make your choice here:

Janet Collection; I have noticed that even the synthetic does not tangle. it is good one too for its price
Model- Model and Outré : not too much to say, this brand can surprise you sometime.

Onyx : I like this brand for the price and the quality and its yaki texture that matches the African American relaxed hair

Goddess Remy , Outré Velvet Remy, Velvet Remy : are a little expensive but can sometimes can tangle They can also be very good. We can not control the quality of the extensions even when we recommend them and the hair dressers are not the manufacturers or the controlling processors

Sensational – This brand of extensions can be pretty good, but you might experience terrible tangling. so, we don’t recommend shampooing and conditioning the type of extensions. They may tangle and feel rough

Milky Way used to be my favorite brand. But now, I am not really sure.

Because you want your weave to look like celebrity hair styles, at Passion Beauty, we recommend that you invest in high-quality hair if possible.

If you want wavy, curly, spiral hair, we recommend that you buy them in the brands mentioned earlier but know they can tangle and shed too sometimes.

+Can I have my hair colored the same day you relaxed my hair?
We do not recommend permanent and even semi-permanent color on the day of your relaxer or perm. these two services on the same day can be very damaging to the hair and scalp. We recommend that you wait for at least two weeks to receive your color service. I you really need a color, we will recommend a you use a color rinse. [/toggle

All will depend on how your hair and scalp look like. we would not be able to say any final word until we do the consultation of the scalp and hair.

We work with all type of hair texture and different types of people such as : African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, bi-racial, etc…

We can do partial weave, almost full weaves and individual tracks to Caucasians most of the time to either add body or length to their hair.

+How long does One’s hair need to be in order to get a weave?
We recommend  preferably  the hair to be  3 inches at least. We have experimented in the past clients whose hair was shorter than 3 inches and the results were either the weave got loss after 3 ot 7 days or the hair just broke from the root.
+What should I do to my hair prior to my weave and braids appointment?
We would suggest : cleansing, conditioning and moisturizing your hair and this can be done at Passion Beauty ‘; then we know what your hair needs at present time and how much of the products to use. If you decide to do this yourself we recommend that you don’t use too much oil before coming. We will still surely  add some moisturizer  if it is needed.
+How long will it take to get a weave done?
It usually take 2-3 hours depending on how your hair is, how much you know about the style you want. In other themes all depends on the type of client you are. But we are here to help you better understand your hair needs.

Passion Beauty being a home-based salon, we recommend that the clients schedule their own time at least two weeks ahead. So we will take each client at his or her own time. Left to us alone we do not over book. Just ask somebody who knows us and you will get the confirmation. We know that your time is precious and we value it.
[stoggle=title"I want a weave but don't know what type of weave extension I should get, fancy="style"]
We can schedule a consultation and we will go over the different types of weaves. At that time, we can decide what would work best for your needs and your budget.
We can also discuss options over the phone and or by email
+I want a sewn-in weave, but I have natural hair. Do I have to get a relaxer?
We have no problem working with natural; and any texture type is always welcomed at Passion Beauty. However, We recommend a full-head weave (with all of the hair braided up) if you do not feel comfortable maintaining the top area of your hair between salon visits, or an invisible parting sewed in . We also to invisible part too. Moreover, we can do a quick weave by using glue. We will discuss about all the pros and cons before application
+I am Caucasian and I have thin and short hair. I just want to know if you can weave my hair to give a body and a length?
Oh! Yes we do. Just call for your consultation and everything will start from there.
+Do you care for damaged hair?
Of course! As matter of fact, we work and want to show that you don’t have to relax your hair before you can have beautiful mane. So yes we dell with natural hair as much as we deal   with chemically treated hair. We work  more for healthy hair, healthy growth, and long thinker hair. That is our Passion of the business. We highly recommend better care and treatment to the damaged hair and scalp; key to the happiness and joy at Passion Beauty. We care for the natural hair; we recommend protective styles (weaves and some types of braids, sometime wigs ).
Note that it is not absolute  to wear weaves to grow out your hair though. The daily routine is very important.

We believe that every client’s hair needs are different; so the regimens may vary from one  client to the other. Also, let’s understand that what works for Adjoa may not work for Afiwa.

We do  make our own concoction depending on the needs and growth plan and goals of each client.
We will always discuss with you to see lf the service requested is good for your hair or if your hair can handle the service. Otherwise we will not be able to provide the service but subject something else that feets your present needs.

+Are there any restrictions when getting weaves, braids /extensions?
We will not recommend braids or full-head weaves on freshly relaxed hair and or damaged hair and scalp. If it comes to this, we do recommend series of scalp treatments, accompanied with scalp massage using natural and essential oils.. The hair is at a weakened state after it is freshly relaxed especially if it is not professionally done. so it is not a better  idea to add cornrows, thread, and wefts at that time. this may pull on the already weak hair and sensitive scalp.  May be we will suggest a weave installed.
We understand that a client may not want to go without a weave because it has become  part of her  life but the health of the hair is more important in our humble opinion.

We will not braid, or weave  on hair that is excessively shedding. It is important to try to get to the cause. Sometimes excessive shedding can be a caused from an underlying health condition that may need to be seen by a doctor. We will recommend seeing a doctor if we deem it necessary.

We highly recommend that braids, or weave  on shorter than 3 inches. The foundation of the cornrow for the weave may not hold up for the sewn-in weave if the hair is too short. In addition, it is hard to grip short hair and we don’t want to hurt you, neither do we want you to waste your money on something that may not hold up for the 4-8 weeks.
For fusion, the hair needs to be long enough for coverage reasons. At this moment, we do not do fusion yet because of the cost of  materials involved.

Hair & Weave Care

+How long to you recommend a client to wear her weave?
We recommend that you wear your weave no longer than 2 to 3 months. Some of our clients have been wearing their weaves and braids for more than 3 months because they think that the weaves are still holding on the cornrow. But we will not recommend that.
+What could happen if I leave my weave in longer than the recommended time?
Your hair underneath could begin to get extremely matted/tangled, which can result in hair loss.
+What should I put on my hair underneath the weave?
My favorite moisturizer to use underneath a weave is Stay Sof Fro; hair and scalp pray for dry hair.
+How often should I shampoo my weave?
Once per week or once every two weeks is fine. However, your shampooing needs may vary.
+Is there a particular shampoo that you recommend for the weave?
As you are wearing a weave or braids, we will recommend a moisturizing shampoo that has a potential to soften that hair extensions and clean the scalp.
+What is the best way to shampoo my weave?
It is easy to shampoo your weave while in the shower. braid the hair in several sections straight back; that will help minimize or even eliminate tangling. At Passion Beauty, we use an applicator bottle in which we pour the shampoo and water, mix well and apply straight on the scalp and between the tracks. You can do the same with the conditioner. Rinse  well. we said this because some people do like to shampoo their hair often. Personally, I do not recommend shampooing your hair and weave. Because if you consider that you are cleansing or using a moisturizing shampoo in order to wash out the dirt and get rid of the build ups and other dirty residue in you hair and scalp, I am not sure whether you are able for sure to rinse out all this. So this is my humble point of view. I do no recommend washing scalp, hair underneath weaves. Sorry to disappoint you ladies.
+What type of relaxer do you use in your salon?
We have been using Mizani brand for our hair relaxer till now. We may use a different brand depending on the need of our clients. just let us know what you think works for you and we will discuss it with you.
+ Do you do hair cut at Passion Beauty?
We are a cosmetology salon and we service in hair care, nail care and skin care. We have choose the healthiest part of our cosmetology training. please ask or call for more information about that.
+Do you to braids at Passion Beauty?
At Passion Beauty, we do all kinds of braids. Just request and we will be able to hook you up. Again, remember that we request scheduling at least weeks ahead. We work on appointment only.

Fusion Services

+What kind of hair do you use for fusion?
We are planning on using Indian Remy hair most of the time or a good basis yaki , but we are not ready yet.

For information, it can take up to 5  from start to finish including cutting and styling this my include the scalp and hair treatment
+How long does fusion last?
We have seen people who wore their fused extension for  3 to 4 months. I have never done them. We recommend that you don’t wear your fusion more than 4 months because the new growth can  cause the bonds to move further away from the scalp, which leads to a an unhealthy “swinging” effect. Plus, your natural hair will have naturally shed and that means that there is a bit less hair to hold the bonds and weave hair. At that point, there is too much weight on your natural hair strands. personally, I do no recommend that type of hair do to a black women or African and African-American hair.

Fusion Care

+Will fusion cause damage to my hair?
With proper application, proper care while wearing the fusion, and proper removal, the fusion method should not cause damage. We will never   recommend applying fusion to weak/damaged hair.
+Can I use the fusion method to grow my hair out?

You can, but we  do not feel that this is the absolute best way. Please be mindful that you will need to take good care of your hair that is in between the fusion bonds. Minimize the use of hot curlers. Since your natural hair is intertwined with the fusion hair, anything you do to the fusion hair affects your natural hair.

+How can I communicate what I want you to do in terms of style ?
Facial Shape/Pictures
This is more important than you can imagine!! You may have the right hair type, color, be great at daily maintenance but the hairstyle is not flattering to you. When choosing a new look always find pictures of people who have your facial type. Use the internet source. magazins. There is someone out there that has your facial shape and you may desire  to look like that new . This helps your communication with your stylist to make the right adjustments on your desired look.
+My friend at work 's hair is very short and very damaged. She can't just wear it like that and she needs you to either relaxe her hair or texturize it for her. What do you think?
We can not recommend anything for her right now until we meet her in person and have a consultation with her in order to determine her hair needs. This time will help us observe the conditions of her scalp and hair  then together we  can decide on what to do.

+Daily Maintenance
When choosing your new look, please be honest about how much time it going to take to duplicate the new look. If you are not use to taking time to make the proper finishing touches on your hair, you may want to reconsider your “new look” Be realistic and honest with yourself and your styling abilities, If you need help and assistance, You must have your stylist spend some times  showing you some techniques to increase your abilities. And let us not forget that it will help your mornings run smoothly also.
Often we see things that we think we might like until we try them on or purchase them. Only then do we come to the realization that it may not be for us. Haircuts can be the same way; so you must do your research. I have selected some points that I hope will help you with finding your new look!
Let’s work together and keep your looks in rotation
Some weaves tips
Any type of weave may have pro and cons. There are several types of sew-in weaves, but the key is to have it done by a professional who should advice you of the right weave for you. Key concern includes your lifestyle and your ability and willingness to stay on top of proper upkeep. A weave should last at most six to eight weeks. One thing to be cautious about is making sure that the weave is not too tight; you may end up with some hair loss due to the excess tension that may cause traction alopecia

+How long can I keep my quick weave in?
Bonded weaves or glued weaves  are more for a short period of time like one to two weeks. all depends on the client’s ability to take care of it. It can sometimes last longer that two weeks.

 At Passion Beauty,

we also use Ayurvedic Treatment

So if you want a healthy, shining growing hair,  then start  taking a hard look at what you eat, when you eat and how you eat.

+Why wait until you experience hair problems?
As with your skin, start taking care of it now and you’ll reap the benefits for years to come.
Massaging the scalp and hair with warm oil, preferably infused with hair-friendly herbs, is also a way to nourish the scalp and hair topically. Not only does the massage work wonders for your hair, but it also relaxes the mind and nervous system even your whole body.
